Summer has arrived, bringing warm weather and extravagant vacations along with it. That being said, the same fun events that bring lifelong memories can also hinder the productiveness and efficiency of the recruiting process. Unfortunately, recruiters cannot typically control the availability of candidates or employers, so bare with them!

Due to the influx of traveling for purposes other than work (vacation, family, etc.) that takes place during the summer time, reaching candidates and scheduling interviews becomes increasingly more difficult. Whether it be an applicant taking advantage of their time off to see other parts of the world, or a different member of the hiring unit traveling each week, the middle man (recruiters) must work to align the schedules of both parties in order to make progress.

As usual, the recruiters must be aware of these issues and work to the best of their ability to solve them. First and foremost, it is crucial for the recruiter to maximize their flexibility for both the candidates and employers; this will help facilitate the process for both parties. Maximizing flexibility may include communicating with candidates prior to or after normal work hours in order to better understand their status in the job hunt and encourage their patience without neglecting them. Moreover, developing a trustworthy relationship with employers is also important, as your assessment of the candidate can prove to be invaluable to them, especially throughout their unorthodox work schedules in the summertime.
