The first thing you should do is ensure that your candidate’s resume is well written and does their them justice. Even if you have to advise them to make adjustments to their resume, it is important that it accurately displays all their relevant skills and experience.

Once their resume is ready, you should then complete your writeup of the candidate, highlighting certain points that your client is looking for (such as a specific certification, degree of education, or years of experience). It is also important to be honest with your client about your candidates, and avoid setting unattainable expectations.

Always be prepared for possible questions & concerns that your client may have about your candidate, such as short stints or any gaps in their resume. Your knowledge regarding these areas of interest is crucial and will facilitate the process.

If your candidate does reach the interview stage, coordinate with them to select dates/times at their convenience, avoiding any stress or unpreparedness.

Lastly, utilize your knowledge regarding the client’s culture and expectations to provide your candidates with useful advice prior to the interview. Always provide them with the job description & company website, allowing them to conduct their own research as well. It is crucial for them to be knowledgable on the company and position in order to have the best impression possible on the hiring managers.

Do everything in your power to shed light on your candidates throughout the submittal and interview process!
