Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the ICF/MR Registered Nurse, this position promotes
the health and safety of over 8 medically-complex individuals with
developmental disabilities in an ICF/MR. Promote staff development regarding
safe medication practice and provide training with focus on health and safety.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Responsible for program
medication management, consistent with CR policies & procedures. Promote
safe medication administration & ensure constant medication availability.
· Ensure compliance with
health/medical requirements per licensure & regulatory authorities.
· Participate in IDT team
meeting to plan & evaluate delivery of individualized, quality care.
· Provide teaching to
consumers and families, with focus on wellness and optimum level of general
health.
· Support and educate
consumers, families and staff regarding medical and medication issues. Refer to
appropriate resources as warranted.
· Provide on-going
consultation to staff regarding consumer health needs, within scope of LPN
practice. ·
Provide program specific on-site health and safety training, as assigned.
· Promote CR Infection
Control Policies & Procedures.
· Provide training to staff
and consumers regarding fall prevention and intervention, consistent with CR
policies & procedures.
· Support training to staff
regarding communication with physicians and other healthcare providers.
· Participate in
agency-wide training by teaching Lifting & Transfer Techniques, Infection
Control, Medication Management and other teaching as assigned.
· Maintain inventory of
medical equipment and implement CR policies and procedures regarding proper
functioning, safety and infection control.
· Participate in
monitoring, data collection and reviews of medication policies and procedures,
as assigned.
· Conduct on-site
monitoring of nutrition policies.
· Participate in special
projects, as assigned by Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
· Must be, at a minimum a
graduate of an accredited LPN program.
· Must possess a current,
unencumbered, active license to practice as an LPN in the Commonwealth of
Virginia or a state which participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
· Must have at least two
(2) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities. o
Experience in working with the I/DD population preferred.
· Must be able to read,
write, speak, and understand the English language.
· Must possess the ability
to make independent decisions.
· Must possess the ability
to deal tactfully with personnel, individuals, family members, visitors,
government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
· Must be willing to seek
out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing
nursing practice.
· Must be able to relate
information concerning an individual’s condition.
